You'll get a good idea from the Statistical Accounts of Scotland which provide detailed
descriptions of all the country's parishes - as described by the local
Ministers themselves. The original Account was published in the 1790s, at
about the time of the agricultural revolution. The New Account appeared in
1845, at the time of the industrial revolution.
